Give me a phosphate binder I can eat!

Like most dialysis patients, I have low calcium and high phosphate levels.

Basically, this is because I’m crap at taking my phosphate binders. I take Caltrate and Alu-tabs to try to keep my phosphate levels down.

I hate the damned things, they taste like crap, they wreck the taste of the food I eat, and they’re like eating a piece of chalk.

The solution: Someone needs to make phosphate binders more palatable. I’m thinking that they need to be coated in chocolate, with macadamia and cashew nut pieces in them.

Now that’s a phosphate binder I’d have no trouble remembering to take! (Although the potassium in the nuts and chocolate would probably kill me!)

Anybody got any other suggestions as to what you’d like to see in a phosphate binder?

Hi Nickey, yes I’m hoping to get another transplant. My first one was from my mother, so I don’t really want to go down the road of family members again.
