Still waiting for my kidney transplant

Bloody hell.

I’m still waiting for my kidney transplant. We’ve gone past the four year mark now, and I didn’t manage to get the kidney transplant before my wonderful little boy had his 3rd birthday.

Apparently, the hospital here in Adelaide which does the kidney transplantation has only done two cadaveric transplants this year - that’s two kidney transplants in nearly four months!

This is such a terrible shame, considering the wonderful efforts of organisations such as the David Hookes Foundation, who work tirelessly to promote organ donation and transplantation.

Either not nearly enough people are dying, or not nearly enough are signalling their intentions to be organ donors. I’m not sure which it is, and I know only one of them can be rectified (legally, anyway ;-))

Well, I guess I just keep waiting, having a heart attack every time my mobile rings, and hope and pray that I get my transplant before Christmas.

I hope you get one soon too - but rest assured that things are very slow here too - I deal with 5 different transplant centers here and not one of my patients has been called for even a backup spot in 5 months….
